The focus on enterprise development within the Trust in 2010 moved more towards providing hands-on support to the local communities. This was necessitated by the need to focus on ‘survivalist’ projects, carrying them through to the next level where they are exposed to the operations in the formal market.
In partnership with Hand in Hand, a total of 79 groups of women were put through capacity-building programmes as part of their introduction to the world of business. These groups were introduced to the critical needs and methods of saving as individuals and in their small enterprises. Furthermore they were introduced to different stakeholders that then assisted them in the registration of their enterprises, and provided financial assistance to those that required capital. For this reporting period our financial support to Hand in Hand was R1.5 million.
The Mahube Small Enterprise Support centre, which provided comprehensive support services to 40 enterprises across the district, was supported with R1.7 million up to the end of the reporting period.
