Funding guidelines
The IBT aims to go beyond mere grant-making and avoids duplication of effort but rather facilitates common-purpose partnerships in which the private, not-for-profit and public sectors collaborate on specific programmes.
The selection criteria for funding include organisations that:
- are registered (or in the process of registering) as Non Profit Organisations (NPOs) with the Department of Social Development's NPO Directorate;
- are registered (or in the process of registering) as Public Benefit Organisations with the South African Revenue Services (SARS), if applicable;
- have been in existence for a minimum of two years;
- address a real need in the community and can demonstrate significant direct impact;
- have proven capacity to utilise funds effectively;
- demonstrate innovation and sustainability;
- have models that are scaleable and/or replicable; and
- have more than 75% black beneficiaries.
The IBT does not provide support to individuals, private companies or businesses, political parties, trade unions or events and initiatives aimed at promoting any religion.
